When accessing the Ideas portal using the Firefox browser, you may get an error saying Firefox won't load the page because of a security issue.
The error Firefox will give is sec_error_unknown_issuer. We do in fact have valid security certificates for all of our sites. You will be able to access these sites on other browsers like Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Safari just fine. Firefox throws this error because of how some certificate providers structure their certificate chain. If you want to use Firefox, you can change a setting in your browser to allow Firefox to read our certificate properly. If you do not feel comfortable making these changes, we recommend using a different browser to access the site.
To enable Firefox to access sites giving an sec_error_unknown_issuer error, to the following:
- Open Firefox browser
- Type in about:config in the URL bar
- Click that you accept the risk
- Search for security.enterprise_roots
- You will see the preference for the security.enterprise_roots.enabled setting.
- If the value is false, double click on it to set it to true.
- You should be able to access the Ideas portal now.
If this does not fix the problem, submit a support ticket with your browser version, your operating system information, any security plugins you are using in the browser, and any security programs you are using on your computer. We apologize for needing all of this information, but this issue in Firefox is wrapped up in how your computer communicates through the internet, and security programs tend to interfere (in a good way usually!) with that communication.
