Supported Screen Readers

Modified on Thu, 2 Apr at 11:42 AM

We officially support the current version of NVDA, a free screen reader that is considered the industry standard for assistive technology.  While our platforms may function with other screen readers, such as JAWS or VoiceOver, we do not actively test them. You may encounter features that do not work as expected.

The Catalyst Platform displays scientific and mathematical equations using MathML and MathJax, which are compatible with NVDA without the need for third-party addons. MathJax accessibility settings are configurable by editing the user profile, speech output and subtitles in English are on by default. If highlight is enabled, it is triggered on hover.

The accessibility settings in the User Profile have options for Speech Output and Speech Subtitles enabled and Braille output and Braille subtitles disabled by default. There are also options for Speech Rules and Semantic highlighting.
